We live in an era where short-term solutions are expected for long-standing problems. Long-term change takes time. So, a monthly donation from your credit card provides East Scarborough Storefront with the investment required to do the important work of relationship building and establishing trust that leads to long-term community change.
Use the form above to make a monthly gift! In the "Recurring" section of the form, select the gift amount you would like to send each month, or choose any amount you would like in the "other" field.

Making a donation can be a thoughtful way to honour someone or celebrate a special occasion like a wedding, birthday, retirement or other special occasion.
We'd love to send a letter to the person/people you're honouring with your gift. If you'd like this too, please share their names and mailing address with us. You can either email it to Sahar or include it in the online giving form as you are making your gift.
On the online giving form there is a field titled "what prompted you to make your gift today?" You can use the space to share that this is an "In Hounour Of" gift. We will be in touch with you to find who should receive an acknowledgement letter.
A donation can be a thoughtful way to honour the memory of a dear friend or family member.
We would be happy to help you honour your loved one in a way that feels right for you. Please connect with Sahar at 647-250-7192 or at svermezyari@thestorefront.org
The online giving page also works for "In Memory" gifts. Simply look for the space titled "What prompted you to make your gift today" and let us know this is an "In Memory" gift. Sahar will contact you to learn more about your wishes for honouring your loved one.

What is the legal name of The Storefront?
For the purposes of remembering The Storefront in your will, our full legal name is MakeWay Charitable Society and we operate under the business name of East Scarborough Storefront-MakeWay. So, in your will, you can identify The Storefront as your beneficiary as follows: MakeWay Charitable Society, in support of East Scarborough Storefront. Our charitable registration number is 130560188RR0001.
How do I leave a donation in my will?
The two most common ways to leave a donation are to consider a residual bequest (i.e. leave a percentage of the amount of your estate after all debts, expenses and specific bequests have been honoured) or consider a specific bequest (i.e. leaving a specified amount of money).
Your donation can be either unrestricted (i.e. your donation will support The Storefront’s work supporting people, building community and facilitating collaboration) or it can be restricted (i.e. your gift will support a specific project or area of interest at The Storefront).
Sample clauses for your will
The following language is a resource for you, your family and professional advisors to use as a reference for leaving a donation to East Scarborough Storefront in your will. We would be happy to work with you to customize the language below.

OR

A will is a legal document. We strongly encourage you to seek legal estate planning advice from a qualified professional if you are making a will or changing your will. We would be pleased to confer with you and your counsel to help draft bequest clauses. All calls will be kept confidential. For more information or to discuss this matter, please call Annie Phan at 1-866-843-3722 or email donations@makeway.org.
Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP) and Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIF) are popular savings vehicles in Canada and can be one of the highest taxed assets in your estate. Naming The Storefront as a beneficiary of your RRSP/RRIF is a highly tax efficient and easy way to make a charitable legacy gift.
Naming us as a beneficiary of your RRSP/RRIF
You can make us a beneficiary of your RRSP/RRIF by naming MakeWay Charitable Society (130560188 RR0001), in support of East Scarborough Storefront on the plan’s documents. Simply advise the institution holding your RRSP/RRIF of the change. In doing so, the proceeds from your RRSP/RRIF bypass your estate (and probate taxes) and flow directly to us. In addition, your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt that may help offset taxes.
A gift of a life insurance policy can provide a significant legacy gift while only costing a fraction of the value of the gift. You have the option of naming us as the beneficiary of an existing policy, signing over an existing life insurance policy, or purchasing a new policy and naming us as the owner and beneficiary of the policy.
Naming us as a beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy
You can make us a beneficiary of your new or existing life insurance policy by naming MakeWay Charitable Society (130560188 RR0001), in support of East Scarborough Storefront on the plan’s documents – simply advise the institution holding your life insurance policy of the change. In doing so, the proceeds from your life insurance policy bypass your estate (and probate taxes) and flow directly to us. In addition, your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt that may help offset taxes.
Purchasing a new life insurance policy and making us the owner and beneficiary
By naming a charity as owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, you receive a charitable tax receipt for each premium payment. In addition, the proceeds from the life insurance policy are not part of your estate and will flow directly to your charity of choice. There is no additional tax receipt to your estate. Contact Annie Phan (1-866-843-3722) at MakeWay to learn more about this option.
We are also happy to discuss other types of deferred gifts such as Charitable Gift Annuities, Real Estate or Charitable Remainder Trusts. Please call Annie Phan at 1-866-843-3722) donations@makeway.org
Making a gift of publicly traded securities is an easy, tax efficient way to make a gift today, or in the future. When you donate publicly traded securities (stocks, income trust units, bonds, and mutual fund units) directly to a charity, they are exempt from capital gains tax. In addition to receiving a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of your donation, you will have the added benefit of the capital gains exemption on donated securities.
If you have publicly traded shares in your portfolio that would generate a substantial taxable gain if you sold, you should consider donating shares to make your next gift. You will receive a tax receipt for the full market value of the shares at the closing trading price on the day they are received and will not owe capital gains tax on the advantage of the shares from the cost base. East Scarborough Storefront will receive the net value of the sale of the shares less brokerage commission.
The key to executing this tax strategy successfully is to make sure you gift the securities to a registered charity, DON’T sell them and donate the cash.
Here’s how it works:
