Learn more about The Storefront and #GivingTuesdayNow
#GivingTuesdayNow is an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19 and will take place on May 5, 2020. It is a global day of giving and unity to rally people around the world to tap into the power of human connection and strengthen communities at the grassroots level. All Canadians are invited to demonstrate the power of kindness and generosity.
The Storefront joined the #TorontoGives movement a few years ago. We are a community development agency who hosts a social services hub. We facilitate collaboration between organizations, people in the neighbourhood, and everyone who cares about building a strong community.
In “normal” times The Storefront supports people with a range of social services offered by a network of 35 different partners. We also encourage and support local residents to learn together and lead initiatives that build and strengthen the whole community: Think – grassroots sports leagues, cooking clubs, seniors yoga, gardening clubs, choirs, things like that. During the pandemic our building and outdoor spaces are closed. You can visit this link to learn more about how we are working remotely to support people from a distance.
A good part of The Storefront’s work and a big part of the Giving Tuesday movement is about lifting up the work of community builders. So, in that spirit, I invite you to have a look at the list of organizations below who are all working in Scarborough and are also part of the #TorontoGives movement. There is amazing work that happening in and around our community in response to COVID-19, as well as long before it hit. Once we get past it, many of these organizations will play a vital role in our community’s continuing recovery.
If you are able, we invite you to make a contribution in honour of Giving Tuesday to The Storefront or to any organization that means something to you whether on our list below or somewhere else in the community. The fabric of our community is woven stronger when everyone contributes – as volunteers, advocates, or donors – whatever you have to contribute is valuable.
