The Neighborhood Group- Partners for Access and Identification (PAID) Program
The Neighborhood Group is an organization that emerged from two organizations joining together in 2014; The Central Neighborhood House (CNH) was founded in 1911 and it was created to address issues that newcomers where facing in Canada such as poverty and lack of access to services; and In 1975 Neighborhood Link Support Services was founded to address issues that seniors in the city were facing. As both organizations grew their range of services also grew.
Today, The Neighborhood group offers a great variety of services around the areas of childcare, children and youth services, community development, community support, employment services, housing, independent living for seniors, settlement services and street survivors.
The program that they run at Storefront is their Partners for Access and Identification (PAID) Program. This program gives individuals who do not have permanent address access to ID’s. Folks who are in this situation are more likely to get their ID lost or stolen. Without these ID’s it is extremely hard to access services and resources such as healthcare, sources of income, register for government support programs or even get hired without their Social Insurance number. This program is run in over 40 different locations in the GTA and they support about 8000 individuals during the year!
