the storefront turns 20!

Throughout 2021, we are celebrating The Storefront’s 20th anniversary of doing community-building work in East Scarborough, highlighting different stories from across the years. Today in particular marks a very significant moment in The Storefront’s history: It was 20 years ago, on April 20, 2001, that The Storefront celebrated its grand opening at the old Morningside Mall, now known as Morningside Crossing!

Our address was 255 Morningside Ave, Unit 305, M1E 3E6. This was the former home of Morningside Public Library which moved to the second floor prior to Storefront’s opening. Our funders at the time were HRSDC Canada and Caring Alliance.  How much we have grown since then, as a community backbone organization, and as a collective of community-builders in East Scarborough.

To mark this specific day, the 20th anniversary of our grand opening, our local elected representatives Councillor Paul Ainslie, MPP Mitzie Hunter, and MP John McKay have offered video messages of congratulations.
